Elements of Making an Inspection

There are several tools and options available to use when making an inspection.  Inspections have a lot of flexibility to how they are setup and can be as simple as a single input field or contain multiple input and calculated output fields. 

1A) Input Fields

Allow for users to select from a variety of options available to capture inputted data.  Dat may be recorded in the form of a linear measurement, and angle, a conversion table (associate words with numerical values which can be used in formulas), as well as manual entry of numbers. 

Fields are automatically color coded based on the data type and receive a letter label (A,B,C) automatically.  The letter label is helpful when referencing the field as part of a formula.  When creating an input field in an Inspection, the following items may be filled out. Rows can be deleted by selecting the "x" next to each

Name (Required)

  • Names allow for a specific fields to be named.  these will appear as headings over the input field to advises users as to what information should go into the field

Data (Required)

  • There are 4 ways data can be entered into an input field.  A single field can only be a single type of data.
    • Measurements - allows for measurement to be selected or entered manually 
    • Angle - allows for angles to be selected or entered manually
    • Manual Entry - allows user to type in a numerical value (generally used for non linear/angular measurement fields)
    • Conversion Table - Create a spreadsheet like table to give user a list of options (in text format) that correlate to different values

Description (Optional)

  • Add a description of field for additional clarity to the end user.  This is accessible in the final form by clicking the "i" icon next to each respective field

1B) Output fields

Output fields are automatically calculated when all inputs are completed and filled in.  These can be setup to use an input fields (as variables) and general mathematical functions.

Name (Required)

  • Names allow for a specific fields to be named.  These will appear as headings over the input field to advises users as to what information should go into the field

Expression (Required)

  • Input fields are called in the format "$<INPUT FIELD ID> 
    • $A+2 would take the value in Input Field "A" and add 2 to it
  • A full list of mathematical functions can be found here 
    • These can be used without the "math." portion
  • Output fields can leverage numerical values, input fields, or other output fields
  • Angles are imported into formulas as radians 
  • Cell will appear red until valid formula is entered.
  • "Coerce unit" selection will force formula to be calculated in a specified unit (helpful in using constant fixed values that are unit dependent as a part of formula)

Description (Optional)

  • Add a description of field for additional clarity to the end user.  This is accessible in the final form by clicking the "i" icon next to each respective field

2) Diagrams or Photos

Background images or graphics can be leveraged to help indicate what specific fields relate to as well as provide additional context for users of templates.  Any photo from your mobile device can be selected.

  • Images can be used as backgrounds
  • Graphics can be used as backgrounds which are often helpful for more generic inspections used on a wider range of projects
  • Once imported, users can crop image to how it should appear on the inspection
  • A background is not required.  If one is not selected, a dark grey background will be applied by default.

3) Placing Input and Output Fields

Once the fields and background image or graphic have been setup, one of the final steps is to arrange the input fields visually over your chosen background.

  • All of the input and output fields appear at the top of the screen.  Selecting one moves it to the canvas where you can drag it to your desired location.
  • All elements must be placed to proceed forward.
  • Using annotation tools, you can mark up over the drawing with lines, colors, and shapes as needed to help add additional context.

4) Saving an Inspection

After completing the above steps, the last step is to save an inspection for later use..

  • To complete an Inspection, Choose name, description and save location (project)
  • Inspections are saved to a project.  Anyone who has access to a project has access to inspections within the project
  • Completed Inspections are saved as objects within an Area.
