[BOLDR] Adding annotations to the template

When creating or editing templates in BOLDR Pro, you can add annotated diagrams and reference images that include measurement field placeholders and custom markup. These annotations help field teams understand exactly where to capture measurements and provide visual context that carries through to every job created from the template.

Accessing the Template Editor

You can add annotations when creating a new template or editing an existing one from your template library.

Creating a New Template

  1. Navigate to Templates in BOLDR Pro.
  2. Click the Add Template button
  3. Enter your template name and description.
  4. Define your input fields (measurement columns such as Width, Height, or custom fields).
  5. Proceed to add diagrams or images for annotation.

Editing an Existing Template

  1. Go to your Template Library.
  2. Select the template you want to edit.
  3. Click Edit Template.
  4. You can now modify input fields and add or edit annotated diagrams.

Uploading a Diagram or Image

Before you can annotate, you need to upload the base image or diagram to your template.

  1. In the template editor, locate the Upload Diagram or Additional File section.
  2. Click the upload area or plus icon to select a file.
  3. Choose an image, diagram, or PDF from your computer (such as a product diagram, floor plan, or reference photo).
  4. The file uploads and appears in the template preview area.

Adding Annotations to the Uploaded Image

Once your diagram or image is uploaded, you can open it to add measurement field placeholders and custom annotations.

  1. Click on the uploaded diagram or image to open the annotation editor.
  2. The annotation toolbar will appear with tools for adding measurements, text, shapes, and lines.

Inserting Input Fields as Measurement Lines

You can place the input fields you defined (such as Width, Height, or custom measurement columns) directly onto your diagram as measurement lines.

  1. Select Add measurements from job or the measurement insertion tool in the annotation toolbar.
  2. A list of your template's input fields will appear (the measurement columns you created earlier).
  3. Click the input field you want to place on the diagram (for example, "Width" or "Height").
  4. Position the measurement tag and line on the diagram to show where that dimension should be captured.
  5. Drag the line endpoints to align with the edges or features being measured.
  6. Repeat for additional input fields to mark all measurement locations on the diagram.

These measurement field placeholders will automatically populate with real values when crews capture measurements in jobs created from this template.

Adding Custom Annotations

In addition to measurement field placeholders, you can add custom text, shapes, arrows, and other markup to clarify measurement locations or provide instructions.

  1. Select the Text tool from the annotation toolbar.
  2. Click on the diagram where you want to add a label or instruction.
  3. Type your text (such as "Measure to finished wall" or "Top of rough opening").
  4. Use the Shape tools to add rectangles, circles, or arrows that highlight specific areas.
  5. Use the Line or Arrow tool to point out specific features or measurement start/end points.
  6. Adjust colors, line styles, and text sizes to ensure annotations are clear and legible.

Saving the Annotated Template

Once you've finished annotating your diagram with input field placeholders and custom markup, save your template.

  1. Exit the annotation editor to return to the template preview.
  2. Review your template details, input fields, and annotated diagram.
  3. Click Save Template or Update Template.

Your template is now ready to use. Every job created from this template will include the annotated diagram with measurement field placeholders that populate as field teams capture dimensions.
