Input fields in BOLDR Pro templates define exactly what information needs to be collected for each opening, location, or object, ensuring your team captures data in a consistent format.
Input Field Basics
Each row in the Input Fields table represents a single field with an ID, a Name, and one or more columns that determine how values are stored or calculated.
You use these inputs to describe what needs to be measured, recorded, or selected when someone fills out the template in a project.
Data Column Types
The column type you choose controls what kind of value the field holds and how it behaves in reports or calculations.
- Measurement: A dimension entered in project units (for example, width, height, depth, or offset).
- Angle: A degree-based value used for miters, slopes, or other angled conditions.
- Number: A numeric value that is not a measurement, such as quantity, story count, or rating. This value can be used as part of formulas
- Conversion Table: Add numerical values to be associated with drop down text choices to be used as part of formulas
- Formula: Computes a value from other columns (for example, area from width × height, or a total from multiple measurements).
Text Input Fields
Logic and choice-type inputs help standardize decisions and reduce free-form data entry.
- Text: A free-form text field for notes, labels, room names, or other descriptions.
- Boolean: A yes/no toggle used for flags like “Tempered Glass,” “Existing Opening,” or “Requires Shimming.”
- Single Select: A dropdown list where you define the available options, such as material type, frame style, or configuration.
Designing Effective Inputs
When building a template, choose the simplest input type that still captures the detail you need and avoids free text where predefined options make sense.
Group related measurements and fields together in the Input Fields table so users can follow the diagram or workflow from top to bottom without jumping around.
