The Custom Label Editor in BOLDR Pro lets you design labels from scratch with full control over layout, content, and formatting. Use the grid-based editor to add text, images, QR codes, measurements, and company branding to create labels that match your exact project needs.
Accessing the Custom Label Editor
- From the BOLDR Pro home screen, tap the + button at the bottom center.
- Select Create Custom Label from the Labels section.
- The label editor will open with a blank canvas and grid overlay.
Understanding the Grid System
The label editor uses a grid layout to organize content. The grid divides your label into cells that can hold different types of content. Dashed lines indicate the boundaries between cells, helping you align and position elements precisely.
- Tap the + inside a cell to open the Add Input Field menu and add content to that cell.
- Tap the + on the right edge of a cell to add a new column.
- Tap the + at the bottom of a cell to add a new row.
- Drag the borders between cells to resize and create larger areas for
content.
Adding Content to Your Label
When you tap the + inside a cell, the Add Input Field menu appears with the following options:
Text Field
- Add custom text to your label for titles, descriptions, piece names, location identifiers, or other information.
- Text fields support rich formatting, including bold, italic, underline, multiple font sizes, and text alignment (left, center, right).
- Use the formatting toolbar at the bottom of the screen to adjust text appearance.
Image Field
- Add a photo or image from your device's photo library directly onto the label.
- Useful for including reference photos, project images, or visual documentation.
QR Code
- Generate a scannable QR code that links to project data or external resources. When adding a QR code, you choose from six link types:
- External Link (URL) — Links to any website or URL you enter manually.
- Active Project — Links to the currently active project in BOLDR Pro.
- Active Job — Links to the specific job currently selected within the active project.
- Group — Links to a specific measurement group within the active job.
- Measurement — Links to a single measurement within the active job.
- Job File — Links to a file attached to the current job (such as a PDF or drawing).
Company Logo
- Insert your company logo or other branding elements.
- Company logos are stored in your account and can be reused across all labels.
Icon Library
- Choose from a library of pre-loaded icons organized into several categories, including retailer logos (The Home Depot, Lowe's, Menards, Floor & Decor, Harbor Freight), tool brand logos (REEKON, DeWalt, Milwaukee, Stanley, Bosch, Craftsman, Makita, Festool, Hilti, Irwin Tools, Leica, Ryobi, SKIL, Metabo, FLEX), construction software logos (Procore, Bluebeam, Fieldwire, Autodesk, Revit, Microsoft, Google, Dropbox), safety and hazard icons, tool and hardware silhouettes, and basic geometric shapes.
- You can also upload your own custom icon by tapping the blue + button at the bottom-right of the Icon Library, which opens your device's photo library.
- All icons are black and white, optimized for clean label printing.
Measurement Field
- Pull a specific measurement from your active job directly onto the label.
- After selecting this option, your measurement grid appears showing all measurements organized by group. Tap any measurement to add it to the cell.
- The label displays the measurement ID, unit, value (in proper fraction format), measurement name, and a checkbox for tracking completed cuts on-site.
Editing Cell Content
After adding content to a cell, tap the element to open its edit menu. The available options vary slightly by field type but generally include:
- Add / Replace — Swap the current content for a different selection of the same type (e.g., replace one measurement with another, or swap one icon for a different icon).
- Rotate Field — Rotate the content within the cell. Each tap rotates by 90°.
- Clear Field Type — Remove the content but keep the empty cell on the label.
- Delete Cell — Remove the entire cell from the label layout.
Label Size Options
The P1L Tagger supports two label sizes. You can adjust the label dimensions before designing your content:
- Tap the menu icon (⋯) in the top toolbar of the editor.
- Select Label Size from the menu.
- Choose between two available sizes:
- 30 x 50 mm — Compact labels for smaller identification needs.
- 50 x 80 mm — Larger labels with more space for detailed information and multiple elements.
Note: Select your label size before adding content to ensure proper layout and spacing. Changing the size after designing may require adjusting element positions.
Previewing Your Label
- Tap the Preview button in the top-right corner of the editor.
- The preview shows your label with all formatting and content in place.
- Review the preview to ensure text is readable, images are properly sized, and QR codes are clearly visible.
Saving Labels as Templates
After creating a label you want to reuse, save it as a template from the Label Preview screen.
Save as Personal Template (Floppy Disk Icon)
- Tap the save icon (floppy disk) in the top navigation bar of the Label Preview screen.
- Enter a name for your template in the Label Name dialog and tap Save Label.
- The template is saved to your Custom Label Library and is only accessible to you.
Printing Options
Single Label Printing
- Tap the Print button (orange) to send one copy of your label to your connected P1L Tagger.
Multiple Label Printing
- Tap Print Multiple and select the quantity of copies you want to print.
- Useful for labeling multiple identical items, locations, or components.
