The T1R is a hybrid measuring tool with three distinct modes. Which one you are in changes how the tool captures a measurement and how the screen looks, so the display itself tells you where you are at a glance.
Digital Tape Measure
This is the default mode when the tool powers on. It measures up to 16 ft (4.8 m) with an accuracy of ±1/32". A grey background with black text tells you the T1R is in this mode.
- Press any button to turn on the tool.
- Pull the tape to the desired length.
- Press Capture to save the measurement.
Laser Distance Measure
The second mode extends your range to 165 ft (50.29 m) with an accuracy of ±1/16" (1.58 mm). A black background with grey text indicates the tool is in this mode.
- Press and hold the Laser Toggle until the Home Screen inverts to black.
- The T1R will show dashing. Press Capture to start measuring.
- Optionally, long press Capture to switch between single and continuous measuring.
- Press Capture again to save the measurement.
In this mode, measurements are taken from the back of the tool by default, though you can change this. A bracket icon on the right side of the screen shows when the T1R is measuring from the Measure Back reference surface. See [T1R] Where is the T1R Measuring From? for the full set of reference surfaces.
Seeing dashes on the screen is normal and does not indicate a fault. See [T1R] Dashing on Screen for what dashing means and how to clear it.
Digital Level
The third mode uses the tool's built-in sensors to report orientation and angle, accurate to within ±0.2°. It is designed for checking that surfaces, layouts, and installations sit true.
- Press Menu to bring up the Menu.
- Using the arrows, highlight the Level menu.
- Press Confirm to enter the Level menu.
- Using the arrows, highlight the Level Mode you want.
- Press Confirm to enter the selection.
A single axis level stays visible on the Home Screen at all times, so you get a live level reading while measuring without switching modes. See [T1R] Level Functions for the four available level modes.
