By default the T1R holds the tape blade extended. It will not retract on its own until you press the Autolock button to release it. This keeps the blade where you left it while you read, mark, or reach for something else.
Retracting the Blade
Press the Autolock button to release the blade and let it retract. Keep light control on the blade as it returns rather than letting it snap back, which is easier on both the hook and the encoder.
Enabling and Disabling Autolock
If you would rather the blade behave like a conventional tape and retract freely, you can turn Autolock off using the selection slider.
- Press the Autolock button forward.
- Slide the black, pill shaped, selection slider to the left to enable Autolock, or to the right to disable it.
- Once this is enabled, a red dot will appear indicating the black pill shape is in the correct location.
With Autolock disabled the blade retracts as soon as you release tension, so most people leave it on for measuring work and turn it off only for quick repetitive checks.
