[T1R] Where is the T1R Measuring From?

Knowing which surface a measurement starts from is the difference between a number you can cut to and one you cannot. The T1R offers several reference surfaces, plus modifiers that change how the result is calculated and displayed.

Each reference surface and modifier has its own icon on the display, so the screen always tells you what is active.

Reference Surfaces

Measure Front is the default and standard behavior for Digital Tape Measure mode. The measurement starts at the front of the tool.

Measure Back measures from the back of the tool instead, accounting for the tool's own length so the displayed measurement stays accurate. This is the default in Laser Distance Measure mode.

Back Tab uses the fold-down tab at the rear of the tool, which automatically measures from the tip. This is what you want for inside corners and hard to reach spots.

Laser Alignment references measurements from the projected laser position rather than a physical surface on the tool.

Modifiers

Measure Relative sets a custom zero point anywhere you like and measures from there. Useful for offsets, repeated spacing, or working from a reference line rather than the end of the material.

Show Center automatically calculates and displays the midpoint of a measurement, updating live on screen as you measure.

If a reading is not what you expect, check the reference surface and modifier icons before anything else. An active modifier you have forgotten about is the most common explanation.
