[T1R] What are the differences between the two lasers on the T1R?

The T1R uses its laser in two distinct ways, and knowing which one you are using matters because they do different jobs.

The Green Laser Line

A single press of the Laser Toggle turns on a green laser line. This is a visual aid rather than a measuring function — it projects a visible line you can use to align the tool, mark a reference, or confirm you are square to what you are measuring.

It can also serve as a measurement reference point. When Laser Alignment is selected as your reference surface, measurements are calculated from the projected laser position rather than from a physical surface on the tool.

Laser Distance Measure

A long press of the Laser Toggle switches the T1R into Laser Distance Measure mode. This is an active measuring mode: the tool ranges to a target and reports the distance, up to 165 ft (50.29 m) with an accuracy of ±1/16" (1.58 mm).

In this mode measurements are taken from the back of the tool by default, which accounts for the tool's own length. You can also long press Capture to switch between single and continuous measuring.

Which to Use

Use the green laser line when you are measuring with the tape and want a visible reference for alignment. Use Laser Distance Measure when the distance is beyond the blade's 16 ft reach, or when you cannot physically run a tape between two points.
